Translating Internet speed to real download speed!

There is always a little bit of confusion when it comes to internet speed and connection. When someone says 4MBps or 10MBps it doesn’t translate to 4 MB per second, it’s atually 4 Mega BITS per second…

There are bits and then there are bytes…(like the difference between crumbs and a cookie…hahaI crack myself up)

A byte is 8 bits of information so a line running at say 8kpbs will transfer 1KBPS… 8,000 bits per second or 1,000 bytes per second.
8 bits = 1 byte therefore 10MBps = 1.25Megabytes per second…

Make sense? because I got lost….
