Office 2007 Trust Sites?!

A client of mine pointed out that was rather interesting in Office 2007. In Microsoft great knowledge and wisdom they’ve decided to up their security in 2007 (by the way this was test on 2007 Enterprise), they’ve added a “Trust Center”

Basically 2007 will NOT open any files that are not in the “Trust Center”, so if you go onto the web and get a word document from a company, 2007 might not open it…

Interesting isn’t it? Reminds me of Vista’s “Cancel or Allow” with every action to try to take!

Here is a work around…

  1. Open Word 2007
  2. Click on the big circle
  3. Click on Word Options
  4. Click “Trust Center” left hand side
  5. Click on Trust Center settings…
  6. Click on Trust Locations
  7. Click on “Allow Trusted Locations on my network…”
  8. Then click OK

What you will have to do is download the file you are trying to get onto your hard drive and then open it. An extra step but if you are downloading it your anti-virus should check it also and therefore you’re adding the step to make sure it’s safe…at least just tell yourself that!
