I know a little more explanation on my Dogwood comment is probably required.
All in all we had an awesome time going to Branson/Table Rock/Big Cedar Lodge. We drove in Sunday and headed back Wed morning.
We did quite a few awesome and fun things, one thing I will say is I’ve never been a big fan of Mexican food until I went to the Cantina Loredo in Branson Landing! That was exceptionally delicious and great service! The Keeter Center was also very good and had great service too!
Now for the Dogwood story…
I had told Val that I’d rather not horseback ride this trip and she said that instead I need to go on a walk with her, since I would send her by herself otherwise… I knew there were trails around Big Cedar that we could have gone on but no I wanted a nice actual Park that had amazing trails. Low and behold there was one such park about 16 miles from us! Yay! I checked online and I check the information guide from the hotel and they both said Jan 1-Feb 28 open from 10am – 4pm. Great!I pull out Google Maps and punch in “Dogwood Canyon” it comes right up and we are off!
I will say that Google Maps has been great the entire trip…but when you put in Dogwood Canyon it doesn’t lead you to the park it leads you to the actual Canyon! and I came to that realization when we end up in an extremely narrow one way dirt road. Afraid for our lives since by that time we were in the Ozarks of Arkansas, I immediately turned around and put in “Dogwood Canyon Nature Park” in Google Maps and low and behold we were an HOUR AWAY! So after driving 1 1/2 hours out of the way we are to drive another hour to get back on track.
We near our destination and I turn to Val and say “I think we passed the gates!” We turn around and see the beautiful iron gates of Dogwood with a beautiful teal sign saying “Closed for the season”
All we could was laugh…
